Seasons of Change: My Beauty and Style Journey as a First-Time Mama

This week’s post will be a little different from last week’s. For some time now, I’ve wanted to share the beauty and lifestyle changes I’ve experienced since becoming a first-time mama—because truly, everything changes during pregnancy and motherhood (at least for me it did, and I know I’m not alone in that!).

From the way we dress, to the way we care for our skin, to even how often we paint our nails (or don’t!), this new season of life invites us to slow down, simplify, and find beauty in new ways.

Hair Care: Simplicity Over Routine

I’ll be completely honest—when it comes to my hair, I’ve definitely simplified my routine.

  • I don’t do masks or daily treatments

  • A few times a year (two or three), I get a scalp treatment to remove buildup, especially since I’ve noticed more accumulation after becoming a mama.

  • Other than that, it’s wash, air dry, and go.

  • Not to mention, I had LONG hair, then after my second-born, I cut it and no regrets!

And as for nails—let’s just say, they’re natural and untouched these days! I simply don’t have the time, and that’s part of this current season.

Dressing in Comfort and Modesty

My wardrobe has also gone through a transformation. During pregnancy and postpartum, I discovered how important comfort and breathability are.

  • Flowy dresses and light, easy-to-wear garments are my go-to pieces.

  • I’ve embraced a kind of “uniform” style—a few quality, long-lasting pieces that mix and match well.

  • I used to have an overflowing closet full of trendy items that wore out or stained easily, but now I focus on simple, elegant, and durable clothing.

And as I’ve stepped into my roles as both wife and mother, my heart has been drawn more deeply toward modesty. My children watch me daily, and I want to model what it means to live with virtue and grace, both in spirit and appearance. Modesty, for me, has become not a restriction—but a quiet reflection of dignity and peace.

Skincare: From Complicated to Clean

One of the biggest changes has been my skin.

  • During my second pregnancy, my skin shifted from combination to extremely dry—almost scaly at times.

  • I felt lost for a while, unsure how to care for it, until I discovered tallow. It completely changed everything for me.

Now, I use tallow:

  • On dry areas—legs, elbows, and hands.

  • On my face daily as a moisturizer.

I fell so in love with it that I now make it available for other mamas through my boutique. It’s one of those simple, pure products that make you feel both nourished and cared for—without all the chemicals or long ingredient lists.

Makeup: Clean, Simple, and Intentional

Before motherhood, I used to wear many high-end makeup brands and had drawers full of products. But once I became pregnant and started learning more about ingredients, I knew I wanted non-toxic, clean beauty only.

That decision reduced my entire makeup routine to just a few trusted items:

  • Eyebrow pencil

  • Mascara

  • A touch of blush

  • Red lipstick (for a bit of confidence and color)

  • Concealer (only for special occasions—Mass, dinner out, or guests)

  • Eyeshadow—only when I can, and only if it’s a brand I trust

This minimalist approach has been freeing. It’s allowed me to focus on how I feel rather than how I look, and to see beauty in the simplicity of being present and content.

Learning to Embrace Seasons

If motherhood has taught me anything, it’s that we live life in seasons.
There are times for dressing up and doing your hair, and there are times when your greatest beauty routine is a quick shower and a prayer of gratitude.

And both are sacred.

Our worth isn’t found in perfect hair, flawless skin, or polished nails—it’s in the quiet love we pour out daily, the small moments of care, and the grace we extend to ourselves when things feel undone.

So to every mama reading this: it’s okay to change, to simplify, and to let your beauty reflect your current season. Because this one—tired, messy, tender, and holy—is beautiful too.

What I Would Say to My Younger Self

Have grace, and remember that you are His daughter. Laugh as much as you can, and don’t worry about wearing layers of makeup — true beauty comes from serving others and living a life of virtue, imitate Mary.

Don’t worry too much about what you wear, either. Trends come and go quickly, but elegance and simplicity never fade. Focus on pieces that are timeless, graceful, and true to who you are.

God is in control, so don’t try to take control of everything. When you make mistakes, be kind to yourself. Learn from them, grow, and move forward with peace. You will end up loving your career, so don’t worry — just keep showing up with faith and perseverance.

Pray — pray for your husband or your vocation. I cannot emphasize enough how important that is. You may not understand it now, but one day you will.

And please, educate yourself in your faith. Read, learn, and nourish your soul with His Word and His love. Even when you don’t feel like it, ask the Holy Spirit to guide you — because He truly will.

Reflection

  • In what areas of my life do I need to have more grace with myself?

  • How can I remind myself that I am His daughter and that He is in control?

  • Am I nurturing inner beauty through virtue and service more than outward appearance?

  • How can I pray more intentionally for my vocation or my husband?
